We Have A Mobile Infant!
Developments and Sleep Interruptions
Well, I’ve been a little behind in my posting, lots of reasons for it. First, my little cutie started waking up 2-3 times at night, and then 4-5 times and it was rather exhausting. At the same time, we also visited/toured new apartments, decided on one, packed up, and moved. It’s been about 2 weeks in our new place and his sleep has settled down to only 1-2 times waking at night (adjustment period seems to be over) and we’re mostly all unpacked. With the new space though, our little baby became mobile! Not a whole lot, but he’s rolling around, pivoting, and working on his crawling motions. He’s also vigorously teething. There’s also a developmental leap he’s been going through the past few weeks, and the fussy period is finishing up this week. Therefore, the clingy and unsatisfied baby is becoming more independent again. So many reasons for the interrupted sleep… it’s likely all of the above causing it.
He also has eczema on his cheeks, ankles, legs, and arms. Although very mild everywhere except one cheek. It’s been slowly getting better, although flare-ups have occurred a few times. We switched back to free and clear detergent (no dyes or fragrances) and our new location has softer water. Keeping the itch away also keeps his scratching from making it flare-up even more. I’m applying moisturizers more often in the day as well. Either petroleum jelly, aquaphor, or an essential oil healing salve. I’m doing more quick luke-warm baths without soap every night (soap – sulfate free – only once or twice a week). I have a prescription for topical steroids I use only when it’s a bad flare-up and his itching is constant and making him fussy (and not able to sleep).
He also has improved is wake time and in between nursing! If he gets a full 10hrs night sleep, he’ll go 2hrs before his first nap. Then it gets progressively more between naps 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, or 3 hrs depending on the length of the nap. He’s solidly on 3 naps a day, will not take a 4th at all, but that’s okay since his bed time is between 8-10pm now (depends on when he wakes up). Average time is right in the middle at 9pm. He’s been waking up for the day between 7-8am most days. Along with the improved wake time, he’s nursing every 2.5-3.5hrs now. He’s also getting good at picking up and putting food in his mouth (solids) but is working on the swallowing part. Often he’ll take a bite, and that piece of food sits on the middle of his tongue for a long time while he plays with the rest of the food. Eventually he figures out how to swallow it or I have to help take it out if he’s getting fussy about it. He tries anything we put in front of him though, so that’s good! I’m thinking about getting some of those pouches that lets you put your own purees in it for things like apple sauce, yogurt, or smoothies.
