Crazy Train – Leaps and Sleep
New Leap Beginning!
I’m not sure what is dictating his sleeping patterns, but apparently I’m just along for the ride. I attempt to direct when and how long he sleeps, but it doesn’t seem to affect much. He’s almost completely done with his third nap in a day, and has been having many early bedtimes because of that. Today was the earliest yet… 5:40pm (he was up at 5:30am this morning and finished his last nap at 12:35pm). It’s been averaging around 6:45pm though… basically whatever time he wakes up in the morning, bedtime will be 12hrs later. Naps are becoming more regular, depends on how the day starts though. If he got 11-12hrs of sleep overnight he’ll be able to have longer wake-times and his 2 naps will be longer and better spaced in the day. If not… well shorter wake-times and shorter naps (sometimes) and usually leads to me trying to squeeze a third nap out of him. Lately that’s almost impossible. I tried to get a third nap from him today… he played/cried for 1.5hrs after being up 2hrs after his second nap. He was having nothing to do with sleep. That is where the extra-early bedtime came into being.
He’s been Mr. Cranky-pants the last few days so I’m curious if the wonder week started early or something… or if there’s like a pre-wonder week time? I read again… one part says this next leap starts between 41.5 to 45.5 weeks old, but a different section says it could start as early as 40 weeks. Guess who turned 40 weeks on Monday? This little guy!
It’s supposed to be “stormy” until December 28th (6 weeks). Yippee! Here’s what they say the signs are that he’s going through this leap (and what I get to look forward to for 6 weeks):
- Angry if I put him down
- Plays with emotions unknowingly to get my attention (naughty and nice)
- Sits quietly, daydreaming
- Often sucks his thumb
- Cries more often, cranky, grumpy, moody
- “Chats” less
- Whiny more often
By the end of this leap though, he’s going to be so different and about 2 weeks away from 11 months old!
